Thorong La Pass is the highest point on the Annapurna Circuit, in Nepal, at 17,769 ft. The approach is a long day’s hike along tracks like this. Very steep valleys and scree slopes. I pushed the color only a little here. The stone has different colors but also the lichen that grows on the rocks has a variety of color. Well above timberline, this is somewhere between 15,000 and 16,000 ft., the only vegetation is wiry, dessicated grass, some very tough low-growing bushes, and lichen. The only sound is the wind, the scuffing of your boots, and the occasional clatter of rocks being added to the scree slope. I didn’t do much with aerial perspective on this one because one of the characteristics of this terrain is the crystal clarity of the air. Not much atmosphere up there.
